Part-time Sales Associate: Roles and Responsibilities

Customer experience

• Greet every customer warmly and create a welcoming, unhurried atmosphere
• Help customers find gifts by asking about the recipient, occasion, and budget
• Share the story behind products and the makers, which is a big part of what sets our artisanal gift shop apart
• Offer gift wrapping, gift notes, and add-on suggestions
• Handle questions, special requests, and any concerns with patience and good judgment

Sales and point of sale

• Process sales, returns, exchanges, and gift card transactions accurately
• Open and close the register, balance the till, and follow cash-handling procedures
• Promote seasonal items, current promotions, and local vendors
• Help meet store sales goals, especially during peak periods like the holidays

Merchandising and store presentation

• Keep displays fresh, tidy, and attractive, and help update them for seasons and holidays
• Price and tag items, and restock shelves throughout the day
• Keep the shop clean and organized, including the wrapping area and front entrance

Inventory and vendor support

• Receive shipments, check them against invoices, and flag any damage or discrepancies
• Assist with inventory counts and note when stock is running low
• Help with vendor consignment tracking and product intake

Marketing and community

• Take photos of new arrivals and displays for social media
• Manage store instagram account
• Encourage customers to follow the shop and leave google reviews
• Support in-store events, pop-ups, and vendor spotlights

Qualifications

• Previous retail or customer service experience preferred, though enthusiasm and a friendly attitude matter most
• Comfortable with a POS system and basic math
• Able to stand for extended periods and lift about 20 lbs
• Reliable, with availability for evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
• Genuine interest in handmade, local, and small-business products
